ESPN Comes to Atlanta
ESPN is bringing its flagship show to Atlanta for a massive reason. The network will host a special edition of SportsCenter right at Bobby Dodd Stadium. This event marks the start of the Georgia Tech football season against Colorado. The show kicks off at 5 pm on Thursday. Matt Barrie, a well-known anchor and golf commentator, will host the live broadcast. He will also handle the play-by-play duties for the game telecast.
This is not the first time the show has visited the campus. The program returned to Tech in November 2024 for a live segment before the Yellow Jackets beat NC State 30-29. That win was a key moment for the program. Now, the spotlight returns for the biggest game of the year.
The matchup sets up a huge night for the city. Georgia Tech faces Colorado in the season opener. Fans can watch the action on ESPN. Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field hosts this contest as a component of a seven-game home schedule. The schedule includes a massive non-conference tilt against Tennessee on September 12. The Yellow Jackets also face defending conference champion Duke in October. They will play 2025 bowl winners Louisville and Wake Forest later in the season. Among the most appealing home schedules in school history, this slate of games is included.
100 Upgrades for Fans
The stadium itself is getting a serious makeover for the 2026 season. Georgia Tech Athletics has announced 100 improvements to the gameday experience. These changes come from a partnership with the Institute’s H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Data analysis and fan surveys from the 2025 season drove the new plan.
The goal is to get fans into the stadium faster and keep them safe. Ticket scanning capacity will increase by 35 percent. Wayfinding signage will grow by 10 percent. Guest services will also expand by 10 percent. New security screening lanes will help move people through the gates without long lines.
Food and merchandise access are also getting a boost. Concourse space has been expanded throughout the stadium. Point-of-sale locations have increased by 40 percent. This means fans can grab a snack and get back to their seats quickly. The popular Helluva Block Party pregame experience is moving back to its traditional home on the north end of the stadium.
It was held on North Avenue for the last three seasons to make room for construction. Now that the Thomas A. Fanning Student-Athlete Performance Center is ready, the party returns to the old spot. The atmosphere inside the stadium will get an electric lift with new presentation elements.
Tickets and Price Points
Season tickets are on sale now for the 2026 campaign. Single-game tickets start as low as $30. The White & Gold Mini Plan offers three games starting at just $115. This plan covers the opener, Family Weekend against Mercer, and homecoming versus Boston College. The ACC Pick-3 Mini Plan allows fans to choose three ACC home games starting at $96. Both mini plans offer a 15 percent savings over buying tickets one by one. Season ticket members get a limited-edition Buzz/Ramblin’ Reck bobblehead. Premium seats in the new Wreck Deck start at $150 per game.
Georgia Tech is riding high after a strong 2025 finish. The team posted a 9-4 overall record, which tied for the 10th-most victories in school history. They finished as the No. 24 team in the final national rankings. The Jackets rose as high as No. 7 during the season and stayed ranked for 14 straight weeks. They went 6-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play to tie for second place.
Tech is the only ACC team to finish in the top four of the standings for three straight years. Ryan Alpert, the vice president and director of athletics, said the focus is on growth. “As our teams continue to achieve great competitive success, we will prioritize growing the Georgia Tech brand, locally, nationally and globally,” Alpert said. The momentum is real, and the 100 upgrades prove the program is ready for the next level.
